18. A merry Christmas

Lily jolted awake and sat up in bed, gasping for breath. It was the third time this week she had woken up in a cold sweat from the same dream. No, correction - nightmare.

Today was Christmas Day and usually Lily would be excited, but now she couldn't say she were. The last couple of days hadn't been particularly ... fun. Lily's mother and Petunia had treated her like air, to say the least. They wouldn't even look in her direction. Mr Evans had left for work the day after Lily's arrival, but had promised he'd be back today, thank Merlin.

Vernon had left too - he probably didn't want to hang around a pregnant freak - and Petunia had reluctantly agreed to stay for Christmas Day. She would be leaving tonight. 'Bet mum wish she could leave to', Lily thought to herself as she slipped her feet into her slippers. The sun had just gone up and was shining through the window by her bed. It was going to be a beautiful winters day.

"Perfect Christmas-weather", she said under her breath. It was something her mother used to say. Grabbing her stomach, Lily sank down on the chair in front of her computer. Yeah, being raised in a muggle family had its perks.

After waiting for it to start up, she opened up google. Surely, there'd be some information about being pregnant on there. She typed in '16 weeks pregnant' and waited.

"Wow, 8 million hits", she mumbled to herself and klicked in on the first site. It was a pregnancy-calender, week by week. Scrolling down the page she found the week she was in and eyed it through. A particular sentence captured her eye and she gasped. "At 16 weeks your baby has developed hearing and is now able to hear your voice ..." Lily's eyes dropped to her belly. "Can you hear me, Harry? It's mummy", she stroke the bump. "Mummy loves you so much."

She kept caressing the bump, when she suddenly felt something. She let out a schocked scream and stood up so quickly that her chair toppled over backwards. She'd felt him kick! "Oh my God!" she said in an outbreath.

In the middle of it all, a thought popped up in her mind. 'James should have been here to experience this too ...'

Suddenly the door to her room swung open and her mother stormed in. "What happened? ... Lily? Are you okay?" she rambled, her eyes scouring the room. They fell on the toppled chair and then on Lily, whom was staring at her mother.

"I'm fine, mum", she said, not knowing what to say. "I'm sorry if I scared you, I just ... I felt him kick." Lily carressed the bump, tears rimming her eyes now. "I love him, mum. He's my baby. It doesn't matter if I'm seventeen or thirty."

Her mother was quiet for quite some time, and when Lily looked up at her mum she saw that she was silently crying.

"Mum, don't cry", Lily said pleadingly. Frankly, her crying was making her uncomfortable.

"I'm sorry, hun", Mrs. Evans said and sighed. "You truly are a grown woman, aren't you?" She shook her head, wiping away her tears. "You'll be a wonderful mother, Lily, I'm sure."

A smile spread across Lily's lips. "Thank you, mum."

Mrs. Evans smiled and took her hand, giving it a squeeze. "Merry Christmas, darling."

"Merry Christmas, mother."
